Lesson Approach

I offer a mixture of different methods mainly focused from jazz studies and technique as well as incorporate ear training, music theory and sight reading.

Bio

Toronto based vocalist Ally Jed moved to North Vancouver in 2019 to pursue a BMus at Capilano University and is now an honours graduate of the Jazz Education program. Before taking time off to dedicate to her studies, Ally was a touring vocalist performing for tribute acts across North America and the Caribbean as well as performing with multiple acts across the Greater Toronto Area over the past ten years. While she wasn’t performing, she worked at a music studio in Milton, Ontario as a vocal instructor receiving a readers choice award for vocal instruction in 2021 shortly after her move.

While studying, Ally gained experience and practice in tonal harmony, ear training, conducting, and performance in jazz ensembles including studies playing and studying the woodwind, brass and percussion families for teaching and arranging purposes. She particularly found great interest in sociology and ethnomusicology studies as well as gaining appreciation and adopting basic teaching methods from cross-cultural pedagogy and Orff Afrique methods. Ally also currently teaches at School of Rock Vancouver teaching an array of different group lessons while specializing in one on one vocal coaching.

Her main teaching methods derive from jazz studies and technique and has taught an array of different styles such as pop, rock, r&b, and musical theatre holding over ten years of teaching experience to all ages and backgrounds. While she is not teaching, she continues to perform across North America with tribute bands as well as writes and performs locally with several other original musical projects rooted in r&b, funk, jazz and folk.
